Local Area
Hin Kong Beach is about 2 and a half kilometres long and it is connected with Wok Tum Beach on the same stretch of bay, you can find some great spots to sit and admire the setting. This whole bay has a tide and during some parts of the day the water can completely disappear leaving just small sand dunes.
When the water is in you can swim and it’s very pleasant. Even when the water is just starting to raise it’s an enjoyable walk with ankle deep water. This bay has quite a few little sandy parts and most of this entire bay is completely natural.
When the tide is low you will see a large sand bank in the middle this is where Ao Hin Kong ends and Ao Wok Tum begins, This is a great spot for photographs as it can appear that you are walking on water.
This bay changes very fast and in a matter of 3 or 4 hours the water can be as deep as a meter from ankle deep. Depending on the weather this bay has some fascinating changes.

Weather and tides / Swimming conditions
Thailand's climate is tropical. High in both temperature and humidity and most people find it very pleasant. The average temperature in Thailand is about 30 degrees Celsius, or 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to its location, daily average temperatures in Koh Phangan range from 24°C to 32°C.
The tides vary all year around on Koh Phangan between seasons and locations. The beach in Hin Kong is not the best for swimming because the tides are very low during the day from May to August (very low water in the morning coming up during the day). From October to March it is possible to swim as the tides are higher but the bay is much better for kayaking or SUP boarding. There are various good swimming beaches year around and we are happy to direct you to which is the best depending on the season.
The climate seasons
The climate seasons are not the same as in Krabi and Phuket, as these destinations are located in/at the Andaman Sea (West Coast) and Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are located in the Gulf of Thailand. This makes the climate differences rather evident.
Dry Season (December - February)
Not much rain, but it might occur some refreshing wind or breeze at this time. Great for wind and body surfing. It is normally a lot of sunshine at this season.
Hot Season (March - August)
The weather is still dry in this time, and it is usually very sunny and hot. In May it might rain a little more though. This is a great period to visit the islands if you can stand temperatures ranging from 28-35 degrees Celsius at daytime.
Rain Season (September - November)
Also known as the monsoon season. It's still hot and normally there are many sunny days in the monsoon period. On some days you might find yourself in a refreshing monsoon shower for a moment. The rain showers are often short and as these island's water supplies are finite, the rain is needed and important.
